Friday 05 Nov 2021: MPs in the UK are forbidden to resign
Members of Parliament of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom are technically forbidden to resign. If an MP wants to resign, he or she is appointed to the position of Crown Steward and Bailiff of either the Chiltern Hundreds or the Manor of Northstead. An appointment to these "offices of profit under The Crown" automatically disqualifies an individual from sitting as a Member of Parliament.
