Friday 10 Jul 2020: Origin of 10,000 steps a day goal
The goal of needing to walk 10,000 steps a day to stay healthy comes from the 1960s when a Japanese company started selling pedometers. They called these step-counters, Manpo-kei (万歩計 or "10,000-step meters"). Most likely chose that name because the character for "10,000" resembles a person walking: 万.
